If you are among those who failed the July Bar Exam, it may be tough and seem even pointless to think about what you are thankful for, but it helps!
When delivered any news you don't want to hear (from a financial downturn, to a breakup, to a sick or dying relative), it can be the hardest work of all to focus on what is good. But try it anyway.
As you move through the day today, think about what you appreciate. Maybe it's a ray of warm sunshine hitting your face and arms --or maybe it's watching raindrops bounce off the windows. Perhaps it's the taste of a perfectly roasted turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes. How thankful we all are for smiles, especially heartfelt ones, with laugh lines aplenty, from someone who matters.
You are not a failure. You missed the mark on a rigidly calibrated, grueling exam. You are going to learn a whole lot from the experience, and next time, when success comes, it will taste sweeter to you than the tastiest morsel of pumpkin pie drenched in sugar and whipped cream.
So if today feels gloomy, if you find a bit of the green monster envying your friends and classmates who did make it last time, find something today to be thankful for. Smile. And, move forward. Your time will come.
